Get Involved
Make sure all students have the opportunity to ‘Go On.’
Help ensure brighter futures for students and a better economy for our state.
Everyone has something to give:
Time
- Be a mentor. Young people need encouragement to go on, as well as help applying for admission and figuring out how to pay. Order the Know How 2 Go Mentor workbook and get started!
- Volunteer to help at a FAFSA Day event, (usually in early February). The financial aid process is complex—these events help students and parents get hands-on assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Volunteer to assist with Application Week, a week designated to help students complete and submit their college applications.
Money
- Set up a scholarship fund at your local bank or school foundation to pay for Dual Credit, Tech-Prep and AP courses.
- Start a fund to cover college entrance exam fees (ACT or SAT).
- Stage your own fundraising event to cover college application fees (even small donations go a long way).
Expertise
- Run for your local School Board—some of the most impactful decisions are made at this level.
- Be innovative, expect more, and follow up—for example, help find ways to address the “fear factor” many students face when considering upper level math and science. Or, make sure challenging courses are offered that lay the groundwork for college.
- Educate parents so they understand the value and cost-saving benefits of Dual Credit, AP and Tech-Prep courses. Not just for students with high GPAs, these courses offer a head start on credits while still in high school.
